    Global Galvanizing Awards 2018

    36 projects were entered through the national and regional galvanizers associations across the world. In addition to the ‘Judges’ Award’ and ‘Industry Award’ Winner, the judges have identified two Highly Commended and the highest placed projects from each participating association have been Shortlisted.

    Environmental Product Declaration (EPD)

    The European General Galvanizers Association has published an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for ‘Batch Hot Dip Galvanizing of Steel Products to EN ISO 1461 – European Average’.

    The EPD has been generated under the International EPD System® based on Product Category Rules for Corrosion Protection of Fabricated Steel Products and is independently third-party verified in accordance with ISO 14025:2010 and EN 15804.

    Controlling liquid metal assisted cracking during galvanizing of constructional steelwork

    This guidance augments the basic guidance given in Clause 6.5.5 of EN ISO 14713 Part 2: 2009. Liquid metal assisted cracking (LMAC), or liquid metal embrittlement (LME), occurs when a combination of steel characteristics, fabrication detailing and galvanizing processing variables create conditions for brittle cracking of a steel article during galvanizing. Such a combination of factors rarely occurs in practice. For fabrications that might be susceptible to LMAC, it is recommended to follow the guidance contained in this document.

    Hot dip galvanizing to EN ISO 1461 and CE marking of structural steelwork to EN 1090. CE Marking for all construction products, covered by a harmonised European standard or conforming to a European Technical Assessment became mandatory from 1 July 2013. CE Marking for fabricated structural steelwork will come into force one year later – on 1 July 2014.
